Since I was carrying twins, my pregnancy was considered high risk.  The fact that the girls tried to be born at 20 weeks into the pregnancy, made me bedridden.  We still didn't have the nursery finished (let alone really started), so I started to get a little antsy.  I always wanted a English garden motif.  I knew I would be spending many an hour in this room and wanted it to be comforting.  It was very girly but not so babyish that they couldn't live with for the first few years.  Other than sit in bed or the sofa and online shop for hours on end, I needed to do something for their room.  Thankfully, I was able to sit or lay on the floor of their room and paint a little at a time.  I am very lucky to have some artist talent.  My mom was an amateur artist and my sister is a professional artist, so its somewhere in my alleles.  I researched many of my gardening magazines and photos for inspiration, (I found the bunnies in a wallpaper sample book), but all are free-hand drawn and painted.  I used simple acrylic paints from the craft store and finished with a spray of a matte sheen finishing paint (found at Michaels', Hobby Lobby, or Jo-Ann Fabrics)

We no longer live at this house, most of the photos below are from the day we moved.    I couldn't believe it when the real estate ad read "extensive stenciling" really...  ugh...

Mid project - still have the old dark baseboards.  They would eventually get replaced with new white baseboards.  A small cabinet went in front of this, so I stopped painting a lot of detail that I knew would be hidden.

Their cribs would be on either side of the trellis.  If I had to guess, in the end I probably painted over 500 rosebuds.

Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowering plants.  I knew I would have them somewhere in the room!

The small entryway to their room sets up for a nice trellis look.  The photo looks a bit squashed for some reason.

This was finished after the girls were born.  In hind sight, I should have painted the free space blue to emulate the sky instead of green to emulate more leaves.  Disclosure - painting above your head gets very tiring very fast!

Monarch

All birds and insects need water, added a bird bath with a cardinal perched on the side.

This picture became a bit skewed as I had to re-orient it for the website.  It was not angled like it appears.

Anisoptera (Dragonfly).  On summer I was a dragonfly monitor for our local park district.  It was quite amazing seeing the different species.

Robin's eggs

Convallaria majalis (Lily of the valley) and Viola (Johnny Jump-ups)

The loft area had a fairy theme.  I din't capture many pictures, for some reason, I only have this one.  I am guessing I didn't like it as much as the garden.  This paint was quite iridescent as I remember.
